Kathmandu Metropolitan City has introduced strict penalties for vehicles violating traffic regulations within its jurisdiction, with fines reaching up to NPR 50,000. The measures are part of the Economic Act 2082, implemented for the fiscal year 2082/83, and outline five categories of fines, separate from those under the existing Transport Management Act.
Here’s a breakdown of the fines in Kathmandu:
- Unauthorized Parking: Vehicles parked outside designated areas will face fines—motorcycles and scooters: NPR 1,000; cars, jeeps, and delivery vans: NPR 2,500; medium-sized vehicles like minibuses and mini-trucks: NPR 3,500; and large vehicles like buses and trucks: NPR 5,000.
- Improper Passenger Handling: Public transport vehicles picking up or dropping off passengers outside designated stops or bus stands will be fined NPR 5,000.
- Noise Pollution: Vehicles causing excessive noise pollution will incur a NPR 1,000 fine.
- Air Pollution: Vehicles contributing to air pollution will face a NPR 1,000 penalty.
- Road Littering: Vehicles or individuals responsible for spilling soil, sand, or mud on roads, causing litter, will be fined up to NPR 50,000.
