Among the many premieres, several vehicles priced above NPR 10 million have made a significant impact. The expo has launched more than half a dozen cars exceeding this mark, with particular interest focused on the most opulent models, including four vehicles priced over NPR 20 million.
BYD Denza D9: Nepal’s New Premium Plug-in Hybrid SUV
Holding the title of the most expensive car at the NAIMA Expo is the BYD Denza D9, a premium plug-in hybrid SUV from BYD’s luxury brand, Denza. CIMEX Inc., the official distributor for BYD in Nepal, has set the price for this luxurious SUV at NPR 29.7 million. While the Denza D8 was also mentioned with a price of NPR 38 million, it was not displayed at the exhibition.
The Denza D9 is engineered for power and luxury. It boasts a 1497cc turbocharged engine delivering 181 HP and 260 Nm of torque. This is complemented by BYD’s EHS Electric Hybrid System and a 31.8 kWh LFP battery. With a full tank and full charge, the D9 offers an impressive WLTP-tested range of 850 km, with approximately 90 km achievable in pure EV mode.
Performance is a key highlight, with dual electric motors providing a combined output of 425 kW. The SUV sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. The Denza D9 supports both 100 kW DC fast charging and 11 kW AC charging, crucial for Nepal’s developing charging infrastructure.
Inside, the Denza D9 pampers occupants with heated, ventilated, and massage seats, a panoramic sunroof, and premium Nappa and high-quality leather upholstery. Following closely is the Morris Garages (MG) Majester, a powerful SUV that has garnered attention for its impressive capabilities. GEO Automobiles, the authorized dealer for India-made MG vehicles in Nepal, has priced the Majester at NPR 25 million.
The Majester’s standout feature is its sheer power, famously demonstrated when it pulled a 406.4-ton train, earning a Guinness World Record. Under the hood, it features a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel engine producing 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Available in rear-wheel and four-wheel drive options, the Majester measures 5,046mm in length, 2,016mm in width, and 1,876mm in height, with a substantial 2,950mm wheelbase.
Designed for extreme terrains, the MG Majester offers a 4WD system with ten off-road modes, triple differential locks, crawl control, and 219mm of ground clearance. It can also wade through water up to 810mm deep, making it suitable for Nepal’s challenging road conditions, including hilly regions.
The interior is equally impressive, featuring a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen, a 12.3-inch information display, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Comfort and luxury are enhanced by three-zone climate control, a 12-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated seats, and massage functions.
Hyundai Ioniq 9: The Flagship Electric SUV Arrives
Representing the pinnacle of Hyundai’s electric offerings in Nepal is the Ioniq 9, the brand’s largest SUV. Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt. Ltd. has priced this luxurious electric SUV at NPR 21.996 million.
The Ioniq 9 is renowned globally for its long electric range, cutting-edge technology, premium safety features, and rapid charging capabilities. Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture, it promises high performance, stability, and balanced weight distribution.
Powered by a 160 kW electric motor and a 110 kWh battery pack, the Ioniq 9 offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 620 km on a single charge. Hyundai claims a remarkable 10% to 80% charge in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger, a significant advantage given the expanding NEA charging network and over 1200 charging stations across Nepal.
Available in rear-wheel drive and optional dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, the Ioniq 9 delivers brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery. United Traders Syndicate Pvt. Ltd. has introduced the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to Nepal, priced at NPR 21.3 million.
This self-charging hybrid SUV combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 240 PS – an 18 PS increase over the previous generation. It features a 1.5 kWh battery, offering enhanced efficiency for navigating both city streets and challenging terrains.
The new RAV4 boasts a modern cabin equipped with Toyota’s latest safety suite, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. Key features include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, OTA updates, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and heated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, and ambient lighting.
